Mycoplasma Test

Mycoplasma

Mycoplasma is a species of bacteria that does not have a cell wall. They are the smallest free-living organisms that are known. Mycoplasmas have a unique form of cell membrane that has sterols. The lack of cell wall makes them not to be affected by the ordinary antibiotics and hard to detect through Mycoplasma Test. The general characteristics of Mycoplasma species include:
         Prokaryotic in nature
         Lack of a cell wall
         Their size is 150-250nm
         Require fastidious growth
         Cell membrane contains sterol.

Mycoplasma detection and identification

Mycoplasma genus is mostly found in the form of contaminants inside the cell culture and stocks of virus. Base Clear can identify and detect the mycoplasma reliably by the use of a validated PCR Mycoplasma Test. The Mycoplasma Test allows for detection of majority of the Mycoplasma. It can also, detect as little as 2-50 Mycoplasma particles of more than 25 Mycoplasma species that include, M.fermentans, M.argininii, M.pirum and M.pheumoniae among others.

Presence of Mycoplasma in Cell lines and biotherapeutics

Mycoplasma contamination of cells in most cases escapes notice through the Mycoplasma Test because of their resistance to some common antibiotics such as streptomycin and penicillin. The presence of Mycoplasma can cause advance effects on cells in culture that include changes in growth, metabolism, morphology and replication. Because of the fact that Mycoplasma is a recurring problem and can cause non-reproducible results in research, Base Clear which is a Mycoplasma Test recommends that there should be routine diagnostic testing.

Microbiology service laboratories

Biopharmaceuticals, medical apparatus and pharmaceutical should be secured to enhance the living standards of human lives. They should have optimal standards that control the duration of the development process according to the GMP guidelines. Also, they should fulfill the regulatory compliance, and all this is done in the microbiology service laboratories where Mycoplasma Test is done.
