Active Vacation in Spain

If you think a vacation is a time for active fun and not just lying about, Spain is a perfect destination. An active vacation in Spain is easy and fun with many different choices for adventure.

With the natural beauty of the country, a wonderful active vacation in Spain often includes walking or biking. With the glorious mountains and fertile plains, places to walk abound. One wonderful walk option is the trek on the Camino de Santiago to the church of Santiago de Compostela. It is about a six-day journey, requiring walkers to walk about 16 to 19 kilometers per day. It is a wonderful way to see the little towns, the attractions, and the beautiful scenery and weather. Meals and nights are spent enjoying the local hospitality and eating some of the great food. Walkers end their journey as so many pilgrims have, at the church of Santiago de Compostela. For a sporty active vacation in Spain, it can't be beat.

If you want to include animals in your active vacation in Spain, consider horseback riding. There are wonderful rides in the natural parks of Catalan. The scenery is gorgeous, with forests, pine groves, and lovely rolling hills. Before heading out, riders practice riding and commands and choosing the best mount for them. Afterward, there is a great one to two hour ride with an experienced guide. When the group returns to the stables, it's time to unsaddle, shower, and groom the horses, which is a wonderful experience itself. Once the hard work is done, everyone has a picnic on the stable grounds and more time with the animals. This gives any active vacation in Spain a sense of wonder.

The few examples mentioned in this article are only the tip of the iceberg in active vacations in Spain. There are so many ways to enjoy Spain, its culture, and its people while keeping busy. Enjoy.
